Christmas in Early Baroque

Before Johann Sebastian Bach wrote his Christmas Oratorio, other voices sounded through the churches of Europe. Heinrich Schütz, Claudio Monteverdi, Michael Praetorius – their works shaped the early Baroque sound world, in which Christmas was told musically with gentle tones, rhetorical clarity, refined sonority and theological earnestness.
