Under the direction of Petr Popelka, we present moving sound transformations of two late-Romantic compositions. They are shaped by chromaticism and leitmotif, and come from a time when the symphonic genre, after Beethoven's standard-setting works, threatened to stagnate in its development, and the critic-pope Eduard Hanslick remarked that not everyone should venture onto 'this battlefield'.
