The work 'Exil', composed in 1994 and running three quarters of an hour, occupies an exceptional place in the oeuvre of the great Georgian composer Giya Kancheli (1935–2019). Not only because the composer, known for large symphonic works, here focuses on an almost intimate chamber ensemble, but also because it condenses, as if in a burning glass, Kancheli's lifelong theme: his departure for the West, the loss of his homeland and the path into exile.
