From a twentieth-century masterpiece to a vibrant Estonian tradition. Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir is a monumental yet restrained work in which two choirs alternate and merge in a rich, almost timeless sound world. Martin composed the piece in 1922, then put it away in his desk drawer, added a deeply moving Agnus Dei in 1926, and then returned it to the same drawer.
