Mahler - Reger

Gustav Mahler's music is a celebration of life, yet in his last years the composer's courage deserted him. Dispirited by hostility, illness and the loss of beloved people, his output darkened. "Das Lied von der Erde" expresses melancholy and farewell: the orchestral songs are a high point, but also an endpoint of Mahler's art.
