Der Rosenkavalier

A world success that began in Dresden: in January 1911 the world premiere of Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier took place at the Semperoper. A vivid portrait of manners in the Rococo and a melancholy piece on the transience of that era: Richard Strauss and his librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal have fused these into a brilliant "comedy for music".
