Two musical heavyweights of the 19th century who knew and admired each other, and who were also connected through their relationships with a woman who championed and supported them in many ways: Clara Schumann, herself an outstandingly successful concert pianist. In this programme, however, the violin takes centre stage in the first half, in Brahms's yearning concerto, played by rising star Benjamin Beilman.
