"If you have a friend, you have nothing to fear!" (Janosch) — Tamino wants Pamina, Papageno wants his Papagena. And so they set out. There is fighting and singing, wrestling and loving, avenging and puzzling. But some things stand in their way: a wicked serpent, a chattering trio of ladies, their own laziness, a star-flaming queen and a dubious ruler named Sarastro.
