Les Noces de Figaro

Although he presents himself willingly as an enlightened aristocrat, Count Almaviva is a libertine only in the pursuit of his pleasures, and it is in the secrecy of his apartments that he likes to enjoy and abuse his privileges. Tired of courting beauties of his own rank, he now covets Suzanne, the Countess’s chambermaid, and tries to snatch her from Figaro, his valet, just as the two servants are about to marry.
