A visit to an exhibition with Mussorgsky, the Essen Philharmonic and Malte Arkona: the well-known cycle »Pictures at an Exhibition« was composed in 1874 – a colourful and imaginative musical painting, consisting among other things of the »Ballet of the Chicks«, the »Great Gate of Kiev« and the »Tale of Goldenberg and Schmuÿle«, all linked together by the Promenade.
