Adams's "The Chairman Dances" is a "foxtrot for orchestra". Drawn from his opera "Nixon in China", the work concerns the Chinese head of state Mao Zedong and his wife, who indulge in memories of bygone times – composed in the style of minimal music, with plenty of rhythm and energy.
