Handel’s Italian triumph: with his opera »Agrippina«, the young man from Halle had taken Venice by storm! A storm in turn sinks the ship of the Roman emperor in the piece itself. He is mistakenly believed dead, and his wife Agrippina does everything to bring Nerone, her son from her first marriage, to the throne: an intrigue-filled, at times ironic game of power and desire, set to music by Handel with great Baroque splendour.
