Accompaniment, dialogue and imitation: the relationship between organ and orchestra is particularly rich. Historically, the organ served as foundation and unifying force in continuo playing, as a dialogue partner in concertos, and even, in later symphonic organ repertoire, almost as a substitute for the orchestra.
