Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Andrew Manze, presents Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. The orchestra plays this work, with its well-known fate motif at the opening, for a reason. 2027 marks the two hundredth anniversary of Beethoven's death and, at least as importantly, it is eighty-seven years since fate knocked on Rotterdam's door in the form of devastating bombardments.
