A little nightingale, whose real, living song deeply moves the Emperor, is invited to the imperial palace. But soon an artificial nightingale appears at court – gleaming, perfect and always the same. The real bird disappears, forgotten and driven away. Only when the Emperor falls ill and everything grows silent does the real nightingale return.
