In Couperin's Leçons de Ténèbres, the centuries-old tradition of liturgical lamentation meets sublime Baroque music. In the time of Louis XIV this solemn genre was greatly loved at the French court. Virtuoso vocal parts full of melodic turns and ornamentation are a delight to the ear, all the more so with sopranos Maïlys de Villoutreys and Rachel Redmond on the bill.
