Stabat Mater van Rossini

The Friday after All Souls' and All Saints' Day, the Friday Concert is devoted to mourning. In his richly orchestrated symphonic poem Tod und Verklärung, Richard Strauss gives voice to the passage from life to death. Although Strauss was still young when he composed it, he evidently could already empathise well with that subject matter.
