Schumann Quartett

Johannes Brahms hesitated for a long time before finally publishing his string quartets in 1873. The music reveals the pride with which he engaged in the tradition of great masters such as Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. For example, the opening motif of his String Quartet No. 2 is a play on the violinist Joseph Joachim's motto: "Frei aber einsam".
