Les Talens Lyriques & Christophe Rousset

Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is a work that still effortlessly moves audiences. The Neapolitan composer completed the piece shortly before his death at the age of 26. It is an unusually poignant evocation of Mary's suffering as she mourns her son Jesus. Pergolesi alternates flagrant dissonances and peaceful harmonies with consummate skill.
