Klaus Mäkelä conducts Mahler 7

Inspiration strikes when we least expect it and Gustav Mahler had his light bulb moment for Symphony N˚ 7 whilst rowing across a lake in southern Austria. The rise and fall of the oars gave him the initial idea and he later described the first movement as «a tragic night without stars or moonlight».
