Richard Strauss and Dohnányi

MODERN. GLORIOUS. POETRY. Richard Strauss travelled to Budapest in December 1895 to conduct his own symphonic poem entitled ‘Death and Transfiguration’ at a concert also including works by Beethoven and Franz Liszt. Richard Strauss’ performance was preceded by heightened anticipation and contemporary newspapers devoted considerable space to his career until the event and, of course, to the concert itself.
