The Rite of Spring

For this concert, the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra will pay homage to the 150th anniversary of Ernő Dohnányi’s birth. The concert will open with his splendid Ruralia hungarica cycle, which was composed in 1923–24 and incorporates Hungarian folk motifs. This is followed by one of the greatest masterpieces of 20th-century music, Debussy’s La Mer (“Three Symphonic Sketches”), the orchestration and masterly thematic development of which opened a new chapter in the history of orchestral music.
