Beethoven: Emperor

Within Beethoven's output, the Fifth Concerto occupies a place of its own: his last piano concerto, it pushes the writing for the solo part towards an almost symphonic dimension. From the opening, the instrument speaks with unusual assurance, then fits into large orchestral arcs in which heroism is never mere display, but rather a way of organising time.
