Modigliani Quartet / Beethoven, The Great Fugue

It is two hundred years (and nine days to date) since Beethoven passed away. This bicentenary concert explores three of his string quartets and, through them, two extremes of his art. The Sixth from Opus 18 is steeped in classicism; the composer titled the Adagio ‘Malinconia’ and requested that it be played ‘with the utmost delicacy’.
