One Sound, Five Personalities: Fauré at the Mendelssohn-Haus Berlin

At the centre of the evening stands one of the great works of French chamber music: Gabriel Fauré's Piano Quintet in D minor, Op. 89. It unites elegance and warmth with passionate intensity. Fauré combines lyrical clarity with subtle harmonic colours, and the piano blends with the string sound into a dense, breathing whole.
