Didon et Énée

Dido is a chamber opera combining tragedy and comedy, carried by a story of infinite delicacy. Purcell integrated the dances of French opera and placed emphasis on arias in the Italian manner. Its concision of one hour takes nothing away from the dramatic tension, which culminates in Dido's final lament.
