The Missa solemnis is one of Beethoven’s most personal works – a passionate affirmation of faith and humanity. It draws on the traditions of sacred music, yet, in its monumental conception, reaches far beyond them. Beethoven gives musical expression to the liturgical text, from the dramatic Kyrie to the final, urgent plea for peace.
