Friedrich Gulda dedicated his Concerto for Violoncello to Heinrich Schiff, who premiered the work in 1981. Gulda frequently turned in his music to »Herr Mozart«, building a bridge between classical music and contemporary music. The instrumentation of the cello concerto also refers to the rare scoring of Mozart's »Gran Partita« serenade.
