Emilie Mayer: A Life for Music

"A unique case in the history of music", the press wrote in 1850 about a concert by Emilie Mayer, "entirely by a female hand". Born in 1812 in Friedland, the daughter of an apothecary, she asserted herself in a musical landscape dominated by men and counted among the recognised composers of the 19th century.
