Bloch – Korngold – Mendelssohn

Three manuscripts, three perspectives on the string quartet. The opening is Ernest Bloch with his meditative Prélude. Then Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Second Quartet surprises with its combination of great sonic wit and Viennese melancholy. And although rarely played today, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy considered his late E-flat major Quartet his best.
